Trying to Conceive and Feeling Overwhelmed? Here’s Your FREE 10-Minute Reiki Fertility Meditation
Written by Jess Kasriel, a Fertility Nutritional Therapist & Shamanic Healer
I know how lonely, emotional and all-consuming the fertility journey can be.
My own experience with fertility and PCOS wasn’t just about food, supplements or understanding my cycle. There were so many unexpected curve balls that I simply hadn’t anticipated, and I quickly realised that trying to conceive can affect so much more than just your physical health.
There was the hope every month, followed by the disappointment and grief when my period arrived. I remember telling myself, “Don’t worry, it’ll happen,” while actually finding it almost impossible not to think about it. When something is so important to you, how do you simply switch your brain off from it?
And then, somehow, you have to get on with your life.
You go to work, see your friends, make plans, smile and carry on as normal, while this huge thing is taking up so much space in your mind. From the outside, everything can look completely fine, while internally you might be thinking about your cycle, wondering whether this could be the month, researching what else you could try or worrying about what might happen next.
The emotional load of trying to conceive
I think there is so much that women can end up carrying when they are trying to get pregnant. There are the pregnancy tests, the Googling, tracking your cycle, working out when you are ovulating, researching supplements, booking appointments, thinking about tests and making decisions about what to try next.
There is also the waiting.
That period between ovulation and your expected period can feel incredibly long. You might notice a change in your body and immediately wonder whether it means something. You try not to get your hopes up, but of course you hope. Then your period comes and, even though you know it is another cycle, it can still feel like another little heartbreak.
There was a lot of grief for me during my own fertility journey. There were tears, frustration and moments when I needed to step away from everything and give myself some space to actually feel what I was feeling.
Because sometimes you don't need another person telling you what you should be eating, which supplement you should take or what you could be doing differently. Sometimes you just need someone to acknowledge that this is really hard.
I also found that fertility could take up so much mental space that it was difficult to think about anything else. And when you are also navigating it within a relationship, there can be another layer to carry. You may both want the same thing so deeply, but experience the uncertainty and disappointment differently. It can take conscious effort to make space for your relationship outside of trying to conceive.
You don't have to be positive all the time
I think there can also be a lot of pressure around staying positive when you're trying to conceive. You are told to relax, not to stress and to think positively, as though you can simply decide not to worry about something that matters so much to you.
But you don't have to be positive all the time.
You don't have to believe that everything will definitely work out every single day. You don't have to pretend you're okay when you're not, and you don't have to feel grateful for every part of the journey.
There can be hope and grief at the same time. You can desperately want to believe that it will happen while also being frightened that it might not. You can have good days and really difficult days.
For me, learning to create some space around all of those thoughts became really important. Rather than constantly trying to find the next thing to do, I started to understand the value of simply pausing, breathing and reconnecting with myself.
Why I created my Reiki Fertility Meditation
This is one of the reasons I created my 10-minute Reiki Fertility Meditation.
I wanted to create something simple that women could come back to when their minds feel noisy and fertility feels like it is taking up every bit of mental space. Something that doesn't give you another thing to research, another task to complete or another thing you should be doing for your fertility.
Just 10 minutes to pause, breathe and reconnect with your body.
The meditation incorporates Reiki and is designed to create a little space away from the constant thinking and questioning. It's an opportunity to slow down, come back to your breath and gently remind yourself that you are on your own path.
You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need to do everything perfectly. You don't need to constantly be thinking about what comes next.
Sometimes you just need a moment to stop and be.
A little space for you
If you're currently trying to conceive and feel like your mind is constantly busy with fertility, I hope this meditation gives you somewhere to land for 10 minutes.
You could listen in the morning, before bed, after a difficult day or whenever you feel like you need to step away from the noise. It isn't about trying to force an outcome or make yourself feel positive. It's simply about giving yourself a little time and space to reconnect with yourself.

And if you know someone who is trying to conceive and might need a little moment of calm, please share this with them.
Because fertility isn't just about ovulation, supplements, tests and pregnancy. It's about you, too.
You deserve support through the emotional side of this journey. You deserve space to feel whatever you're feeling, and you deserve moments where you can step away from trying and simply be yourself.
